what is so strange about the bald eagle that Charles Broley study？What explanation or result did Charles Broley come up with about the cause of Florida eagles losing their natural instinct to mate and raised young?what are the bizarre and puzzling problems that start to disdurb the wildlife throughout different parts of the world？

ReplyDeleteWhat's really strange about the bald eagles that Charles Broley is studying is that they are taking up an abnormal behavior. The bald eagles in Florida are starting to neglected building nests and are also not engaging into mating rituals. This abnormal behavior is very detrimental to the bald eagle population and if a solution is not found, it has the potential to wipe out the entire population of bald eagles in Florida.

To add on to my previous comment. Charles Broley later came to doubt this explanation. As he continued his work through the mid-1950s, he became firmly convinced that 80 percent of Florida's bald eagles were sterile-a complaint that one could hardly blame on the bulldozers.

ReplyDeleteThere are many bizarre and puzzling problems that began to surface in different parts of the world- in Flsorida, the Great Lakes, and California; in England, Denmark, the Medditeranean, and elsewhere.
To add on to my previous comment:
ReplyDeletemany of the disturbing wildlife reports involved defective sexual organs and behavioral abnormalities, impaired fertility, the loss of young, or the sudden disappearance of entire animal populations. In time, the alarming reproductive problems first seen in wildlife touched humans too.
Each incident was a clear sign that something was seriously wrong, but for years no one recognized that these disparate phenomena were all connected. While most incidents seemed linked somehow to chemical pollution, no one saw the common thread.

ReplyDeleteWhen Charles Broley decides to investigate the bald eagles he notices a strange behavior in this specie, something that was never seen before. Not only are the eagles failing to perform their mating activities/rituals, but also their atypical behavior predicts a decline in the bald eagle population, since they are losing their natural instinct to mate and care for their offsprings. If we were investigating with Charles Broley at the time, we could have deduce that this phenomena would lead to the halting of reproduction of this certain specie, ultimately condemning the bald eagle population to extinction.
Second question:
ReplyDeleteAlthough Charles Broley was not certain at the time of what could have caused such abnormal behavior, he came to the possible conclusion that the atypical behavior could be attributed to the "Florida's postwar development boom" (pg.2). He as other researchers also came to same conclusion, that it was the cause of human activities obstructing the way of life of this specie.
Third question:
ReplyDeleteThe main bizarre and puzzling problem that seem to affect the wildlife throughout different parts of the world is pollution. The author keeps making constant references to pollution, specifically of pesticides, such as DDT and PCB, that seems to affect wildlife drastically around the world. This problem causes population decline in several types of species because they are dying, being vulnerable against these silent but brutal killer.
