A – Alcohols are organic compounds containing hydroxyl groups, and their specific names usually end in –ol, as in ethanol, the drug present in alcoholic beverage.
N - NH2 (Amino Group) consists of a nitrogen atom bonded to two hydrogen atoms and to the carbon skeletons. Organic compounds to this functional group called amines. Glycine and similar compounds having both amino and carboxyl groups are called amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins.
I – Isomers are compounds that have the same molecular formula but different structures and hence different properties.
C – Carbonyl group consists of a carbon atoms joined to an oxygen atom by a double bond. If the carbonyl group is on the end of a carbon skeleton, the organic compound is called an aldehyde; otherwise the compounds are called a ketone.
M – Monosaccarides generally have molecular formulas that are some multiple of CH2O. Glucose is the most common monosaccharide.
O – Organic chemistry is the study of carbon compounds.
L- Lipids are the one class of large biological molecules that does not include polymers. The compounds called lipids are grouped together because they shared one important trait: they have no little or no affinity of water. The most important families of lipids are fats, phospholipids, and steroids.
E – Enantiomers are molecules that are mirror image of each other.
C – Carboxyl Group is the entire assembly of atoms when an oxygen atom is double – bonded to a carbon atom that is also bonded to a hydroxyl group. Compounds containing carboxyl groups are known as carboxylic acid, or organic acid.
U – Unsaturated fatty acid has one or more double bonds, formed by the removal of hydrogen atoms from the carbon skeleton.
L – Lysosome is a membrane- bounded sac of hydrolytic enzymes that the cell uses to digests macromolecules.
E – Enzyme is a protein serving as a catalyst, a chemical agent that changes the rate of a reaction without being consumed by the reaction.
